6 natural remedies that will help you say: “STOP to the hair loss”

We are now ready to move on and start talking about the five natural remedies prevent hair loss for this week.

In this blog post, we will talk about the following natural remedies to prevent and stop hair loss:

  1. Green tea.
  2. Caffeine.
  3. Onions and pepper
  4. Garlic.
  5. Thyme, Burdock, Rosemary.

Let’s start with the first one.

Green tea

Green tea is a type of tea. It is obtained from the same plants as black tea that we usually drink, the only difference is that during the manufacturing process, green tea does not undergo any oxidation process. The manufacturing process for green tea is very interesting and if you want to find out more click here.

I personally like green tea, but westerners tend to prefer black tea because it is sweeter has a less strong taste.

This tea is known all over the world for its beneficial properties. The benefits of green tea not only affect our hair but our whole body. Some research has shown that green tea helps:

  • Against Cancer
  • Cardiovascular system
  • Digestive system
  • Fat and sugar metabolism
  • Nervous system
  • Inflammatory, autoimmune and radiation diseases
  • Sensory organs
  • Infectious diseases
  • Intoxication.

Obviously green tea also helps to prevent and decrease hair loss, the reason we are here. 😉

Let’s see why and how green tea can help our hair.

What are the benefits of green tea for our hair?

Green tea is an excellent solution for those looking for natural remedies to prevent hair loss. Rich in polyphenols and trace elements, this tea is a great ally for our hair. We must not forget that green tea is rich in vitamins and antioxidants as well. It is precisely the anti-oxidant agents in green tea that, when acting on the scalp, reinforce it, helping to fight hair loss.

Fighting hair loss is not the only beneficial effect that this tea has on our beloved hair. In fact, if you suffer from oily hair, green tea is a cure-all. By balancing the production of sebum, it manages to free the scalp from excess sebum. It also frees the pores of the scalp to “breathe” allowing them to oxygenate better, promoting hair growth.

Last but not least, the beneficial properties that these leaves can bring to our hair is the ability to fight dandruff.

How does green tea help us fight hair loss?

Until now, we have looked at the beneficial properties of green tea. Let’s see, now, how it helps us fight one of the biggest problems feared by all women … hair loss.

Green tea is particularly suitable for those suffering from androgenetic alopecia. This tea combats androgenetic alopecia and is excellent against hair loss because it blocks the action of the enzyme 5- alpha-reductase type I. This enzyme acts directly on the hair follicles, as it is responsible for converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT leads to a reduction of follicles and to hair loss.

However, even those who do not suffer from this problem can use green tea for healthier and stronger hair.

How to use green tea to fight hair loss

To counter hair loss with the help of green tea, you have three possibilities:

1) You can take green tea by mouth. In other words, you can drink it as you normally do. Two or three cups a day will help the body absorb all the beneficial properties of green tea.

2) You can use it as a hair pack.

3) You can use green tea as a last rinse after shampooing.

Green tea hair pack to say stop hair loss

Green tea – 1 cup
Optional ingredients

If you want, you can add oils (coconut oil, castor oil, rice oil. almond oil, you can choose the oil you prefer the most),  butters (cocoa butter, shea butter) and essential oils to your mask.

For example, you could add:

  • 1 spoonful of Cocoa Butter or Karite Butter;
  • A few drops (I usually add 5) of essential orange oil or tea tree essential oil or rosemary essential oil.

If you want to discover the benefits of some of my favorite essential oils you can find them in this article:

  1. Make tea as you normally would if you wanted to drink it.
  2. Let it cool down.
  3. Add the optional ingredients.
  1. Apply it to damp hair.
  2. Massage your hair for a few minutes and leave the green tea on for 10 minutes.
  3. After 10 minutes, rinse your hair with a natural shampoo or a mild shampoo.

Green tea hair rinse

Green tea- 1 or 1 and a half cup
  1. As before, prepare the green tea and let it cool.
  1. Once cool, wash your hair with shampoo as usual.
  2. Once you’ve washed away all the shampoo, use the tea for the last rinse.
  3. Wait 10 minutes before drying your hair. In this way, your scalp will be able to absorb the tea.

CAUTION!!! After using tea to rinse your hair, water should not be used. In fact, it goes directly to the drying.

Both the green tea hair pack and the green tea rinse can be used twice or three times a week. The results will amaze you!😍

I have been using green tea rinses and wraps for some time now. I usually alternate green tea rinses with delicate hair masks and I must say that the results are fantastic. My hair is bright, strong and I must admit that I have seen clear improvements in growth.

Caffeine to fight hair loss

Today’s second natural remedy for hair loss is caffeine. As soon as you wake up, especially on Monday morning, the only thing that gets us up is a nice cup of coffee, right?😴🥱😴

Well, sometimes our hair also needs a bit of coffee to get off to a good start. In fact, coffee has proven to be an excellent natural remedy, as an alternative to drugs, to combat hair loss.

But let’s learn more.

How does coffee act on hair loss?

There are several scientific studies (Effects of caffeine and testosterone on the proliferation of human hair follicles in vitro from the University of Jena and a study from the Charitè University of Berlin in collaboration with the Peter and Seeber Study in Hamburg) that show that the coffee stimulates hair follicles and make them stronger. It also helps to prevent hair loss. In fact, coffee, like green tea, manages to block the action of DHT. As we said above, DHT is a derivative of testosterone which, if present in large quantities in our body, causes androgenetic alopecia.

In particular, these studies have shown that the use of coffee shampoo has:

  • prolonged the life phase of the hair;
  • promoted hair growth.

It has also been shown that women are more sensitive to this type of treatment.

Well after finding out how coffee helps us against hair loss, I am sure you want to learn some DIY recipes, right?😉

So let’s not waste any more time and let’s find out how to make:

  • A DIY coffee mask
  • A coffee pack and
  • A coffee shampoo

I can’t wait to find out which one was your favorite.

Coffee hair pack

2 coffee-grounds (40g)

Optional ingredients

If you want, you can add oils (coconut oil, castor oil, rice oil. almond oil, you can choose the oil you prefer the most),  butters (cocoa butter, shea butter) and essential oils to your mask.

For example, you could add:

  • 1 spoonful of Cocoa Butter or Karite Butter;
  • a few drops of essential oils of your choice.
  1. Take the two coffee grounds and wait for them to cool down. We don’t want to burn ourselves, right? But let’s not make them cool too much, we must have the coffee grounds on our head when they are still warm.
  1. Apply the warm coffee grounds to your hair and massage for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Afterward, wash your hair with a natural or mild shampoo as you usually do.

Obviously, as always, it is advisable to carry out the last rinse with cold water to make your hair stronger and more luminous.

Hair pack with coffee and green tea

2-3 coffee grounds (40g-50g)
1 cup or 1 an a half cup of green tea
Optional ingredient

If you want, you can add 5 drops of orange or tea tree essential oil or rosemary to this hair pack. You can also add a spoonful of coconut butter or shea butter if folded. They never hurt.

It is very simple to prepare this mask with green tea and coffee:

  1. Just mix all the ingredients in a container and you’re done. Easy, isn’t it?
  1. This mask should be applied to damp hair.
  2. Massage the scalp for 5/10 minutes then rinse your hair with a natural or mild shampoo. To be sure to eliminate all of the masks, I recommend using hot water.
  3. For the last rinse, as always, I recommend cold water, to make the hair bright and strong.

“The benefits of cold water are different: it makes hair shinier, avoiding that annoying and unsightly ‘dry brush’ effect. It tightens the pores of the skin; blocking the entry of dirt and helping to keep the hair clean for a longer period of time.” – from 5 Natural Beauty Tips for your Hair [2019]

Coffee shampoo

Well, girls, the last remedy we will see with coffee in it will be coffee shampoo. Are you ready? Once you have tried this remedy and seen the results, you will no longer want to go without it.😍

1 bottle of shampoo (preferably natural)
Coffee powder (quantity is according to the quantity of shampoo )
  1. For every 100 ml of shampoo, add a large spoonful of coffee powder.
  2. Mix it well. To mix, just close the shampoo bottle and shake it.
  3. Once you have finished mixing, leave the shampoo to rest for 48 hours.
  1. Use the shampoo like any other shampoo.
  2. Apply the shampoo to the hair and massage for a couple of minutes. After that, rinse your hair with warm water.
  3. As always girls, remember, the last cold rinse is a must.

Note: As always, remember that natural remedies take time and constancy. However, it should not be abused, so for masks, I recommend using them once or a maximum of twice a week. The shampoo is also advised once or a maximum of twice a week. You can alternate it with a natural or delicate shampoo, for a maximum period of three months. Frequent use of these masks and shampoos will leave your hair too dry.

Obviously, I do not recommend using coffee masks and coffee shampoo in the same period, it is advised that you use them separately. So if you have decided to use coffee masks, opt for a natural or mild shampoo. After three months, stop using these ingredients for a couple of months. After that, you can continue for another three months alternating, as mentioned above, the coffee shampoo with a natural shampoo. In addition to the natural shampoo, you can use a more delicate mask that does not dry out the hair too much.

If you are looking for some ideas for natural masks, you will find excellent ideas for 100 percent natural and DIY masks here.

Well, after these three coffee recipes, it’s time to move on to the next natural remedy against hair loss … what do you think? The next remedy involves the use of two somewhat particular ingredients.

Do you want to know what they are? … read on and find out!😉

The only thing I can tell you is that, despite how strange the ingredients are, this remedy must be given a chance. At least they were for me, among those that I have tried… now I await your feedback.

Are you even more intrigued? … Well, let’s start then.

Onions and pepper

I guess the title has already spoiled the ingredients we’re going to use.😅

I was honestly a little skeptical about onion and pepper. You know, because of the smell the onion could leave on my hair, but once I tried, I really had to change my mind! Well, first of all, I would say to go check the beneficial effects of these 2 ingredients and how these affect our hair. I would say to start with the onion, perhaps the strangest ingredient, wouldn’t you agree?

Let’s start!

How does onion help us fight hair loss?

Well, girls, let’s face it, those of you who read the ingredients for this natural remedy against hair loss thought: “absolutely not! The onion stinks too much!”

Indeed, this particular ingredient that we are going to use may not have a very good smell but has fantastic properties. Rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, onion juice is known for its ability to promote hair growth and as a natural treatment against alopecia.  This juice, if applied to the scalp, promotes microcirculation, helping the flow of nourishment to the hair. The result? Your hair will be healthier and stronger. The use of onion juice also makes the hair more shiny and voluminous.

Onions also contain Enzyme Catakase, which prevents premature hair graying. Finally, its antibacterial properties should not be forgotten … so we can safely say: goodbye lice!

How does Pepper help us fight hair loss?

The other ingredient that we are going to use for our hair loss prevention mask is black pepper. We all know that black pepper is one of the essential spices in the kitchen, to add that extra touch to our recipes. But few know that this spice also has many excellent properties for the beauty of our hair.

Black pepper is an excellent stimulant, which means that it is an ingredient that helps cell regeneration. It has detoxifying properties as it helps burn toxins. Black pepper is also an excellent natural antifungal and antibacterial. This spice also helps the transport and absorption of essential substances for the health of skin and hair such as:

  • vitamins,
  • minerals
  • amino acids.

Well, now that we have seen the properties of the two ingredients, let’s see how to use for our natural remedies to stop and prevent hair loss.

Hair loss prevention mask with onion juice and pepper

1 Onion
4 Peppercorns
1 Teaspoon of water
  1. Put the 4 peppercorns in a container and add 1 teaspoon of water. Leave it for one night (so it will be easier to shred).
  2. Take a medium-sized onion and peel it.
  3. Then cut it into small pieces.
  4. Add the chopped onion and pepper to a blender.
  5. You don’t need to add water other than the water you used to soak the peppercorns.
  6. Shred everything.
  7. Mix well.

Then you have two options:

1) You can use the mixture as it is:

In this case, after the ingredients have been chopped add 20 drops of Tea Tree and Rosemary essential oil.

2) You can extract the juice:

If instead, you decide to extract the juice from this compound put the mixture in a tea strainer. Then, with a spoon, mash the mixture until all the juice is extracted. Once all the juice has been extracted, add the essential oils and mix everything.

There is no fairer choice, it depends on you.

The difference?

Obviously, the juice will come out of the hair more easily than the compound.

  1. Comb your hair well and divide it into sections, this will make the application easier.
  2. Take the mixture or the juice, depending on what you have decided to use, and apply it to the hair. To apply it, you can use your hands, or if you have decided to use the juice, you can use a cotton ball.
  3. Soak the cotton wool in the juice, and squeeze the cotton ball to remove the excess juice. At this point, gently apply the juice all over the scalp. Having divided the hair into sections, it should be easier to cover the whole head.
  4. When applying, always make sure that the cotton is well soaked. When you are finished applying the product, massage the scalp for two or three minutes. As always, girls, remember to use your fingertips to perform the massage and not the nails to avoid damaging the scalp. The massage will help the absorption of the product and stimulate circulation.
  5. Once you have finished massaging the skin, wrap your hair in transparent film or wear a shower cap. This will make the absorption of the product even more effective. Why? The cling film or the shower cap will create a warm microenvironment that dilates the pores, helping the absorption of the product.
  6. Keep the product on your hair for 1 hour than you can wash your hair with a natural shampoo.

This plant has been used as medicine for several centuries, but the root extract is today best known for hair care. In particular, an oil is obtained from this vegetable, called Bur oil. Bur oil is famous for its effectiveness regarding hair health and beauty. It is also capable of alleviating the irritations of the scalp or of preventing and treating hair loss.

This product is obtained directly from cold extraction. This is the only method that allows the oil to maintain the efficacy possessed by the different essential fatty acids it contains. In addition to containing essential fatty acids, this plant is also known for its draining, purifying and antibacterial properties. The oil contains:

  • Proteins: fundamental to accelerate the metabolism of the scalp.
  • Tannic substances: known for their anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.
  • Essential fatty acids: regenerate damaged hair, making it shiny and healthy.
  • Inulin: natural polysaccharide, which absorbs and removes dirt and harmful substances.
  • Vitamins C, A, B, P, and E, which accelerate hair growth and promote its regeneration.
  • Minerals: among which the most present are sulfur, selenium, manganese, frogs, phosphorus, silicon, magnesium, zinc, sodium, potassium, iron and cobalt. Their presence is important in order to rejuvenate and strengthen the roots, thus preventing hair loss.

But now let’s see how to make good use of it.

DIY burdock oil

Let’s now see how to prepare burdock oil at home, for all those who have a few minutes and prefer DIY to store-bought! To prepare burdock oil, it is possible to do it at home, and the procedure is also very easy to follow. Let’s see the steps.

Burdock root
  1. Cut a root into very small pieces.
  2. Dip it in any vegetable oil, such as sunflower oil or olive oil, following the proportion of 1:3.
  3. Soak the root in the oil for about 24 hours, in a cool place away from light sources.
  4. Proceed with filtering.

Now you just need to apply it!

Night Pack

  1. Apply the oil on all the skin, promoting its absorption through a massage carried out with the fingertips, moved in a circular motion.
  2. Then apply over the entire length of the hair, massaging from top to bottom. But, of course, don’t forget to run your fingers through your hair.
  3. Let the mixture act on the hair overnight.
  4. The following morning, carry out a normal shampooing.

Hair mask with burdock oil to stop hair loss

Now let’s see together which is the most effective mask against hair loss.

15 gr Burdock oil
15 gr Castor oil
30 gr of Persimmon powder
1 spoon of milk
  1. Heat the milk.
  2. Mix it with the cocoa until you get a fairly thick cream.
  3. Add the oils and continue stirring in such a way as to dissolve all the lumps.
  4. Now you just have to proceed with the application.
  1. This compound can be applied both on the skin and on the hair. In both cases, it is important to perform a massage with circular movements to promote the absorption of the oils.
  2. Hold for about 40 minutes.
  3. Proceed with the usual rinse or shampoo.

CAUTION!! This remedy can be used only by those with dark hair because the cocoa will give blond hair shades that go brown. It is therefore important that if a girl with light hair want to try this remedy, that she remove the cocoa from the ingredients.

Burdock decoction

Burdock root
250 ml of water
  1. Cut the burdock root into very small pieces
  2. Put the burdock root pieces in a pot with 250 ml of water.
  3. Heat the water and the root until it boils.
  4. Once it started to boil, let it cook for about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Filter the mixture.
  6. Leave to rest for another 5 minutes.
  1. Take the decoction orally twice a day, between meals.
  2. To increase its effectiveness, repeat the intake regularly.

Daily Package

50 g of burdock
1/2 liter of water
  1. Bring 50 g of burdock root to the boil in half a liter of water, until a fairly thick liquid is obtained.
  2. Leave the mixture to rest for about 5 minutes before proceeding with the application.
  1. Apply on the scalp by performing circular massages with the fingertips for several minutes, in order to favor their absorption.
  2. Apply a little product also on the lengths, but not too much.
  3. Leave on for about 15 minutes.
  4. Proceed with the usual shampoo.

Caution!!! If you want visible results, it is important to repeat the treatment constantly and for a minimum of two months.

An effective remedy against hair loss is masks and wraps based on rosemary. This plant has numerous therapeutic and beneficial properties: it is an analgesic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, disinfectant and at the same time, relaxing, energizing and restorative. Rosemary controls the amount of sebum and dandruff produced by the scalp. It delays and prevents the growth of white hair, but above all, slows hair loss. Let’s see how to prepare a rosemary infusion.

Rosemary infusion
  1. Fill a saucepan with water until it boils.
  2. Turn off the heat and insert a teaspoon of rosemary leaves for every 100 mL of water.
  3. Cover with the lid and leave on for 10/15 minutes.
  4. Filter the infusion and proceed with the application or with the intake.
  5. Let the infusion cool for about 15-20 minutes before applying it.

If during the boiling, you add some thyme leaves to the water, you obtain an exceptional hair loss prevention lotion.

  1. Proceed with the application, pouring the infusion on the scalp.
  2. Then massage the scalp with circular movements and also massage the lengths, from top to bottom. While massaging do not forget to pass your hands through your hair to facilitate the absorption of the product on the inside of the hair.
  3. Leave on for about 20 minutes.
  4. Proceed with the usual shampoo.

To obtain visible and effective benefits, it is important to repeat the application once a week and consistently for at least three months.

CAUTION!! Rosemary tends to darken hair, especially light hair. So if they have light hair,  halve the doses of teaspoons of rosemary put in the infusion. For those who have dark hair and try this remedy, they will eventually notice very shiny hair and magnificent reflections.

If you want to exploit the whole range of beneficial properties offered by this plant, you can drink the infusion as a normal herbal tea. The compound should be taken once a day, between meals and repeated twice a week. You can store it in dark bottles, away from sources of light and heat, for a maximum of two to three days. After two or three days the infusion will lose its properties.

It is also recommended to use fresh rosemary to prepare the infusion. If you will use fresh rosemary, you will able to take full advantage of its benefits.

Let’s see how to use rosemary infuse as a hair wraps

Shampoo your hair as usual. Once you removed all the shampoo, use the infusion to rinse your hair. This type of application allows you to eliminate and prevent the formation of dandruff. Rosemary is also an amazing natural moisturizer, which leaves hair soft and silky.

Rosemary oil will help you say stop hair loss

Long and damaged hair? Let’s see together how to make rosemary oil, which will help you not only to fight the fall but also to improve the health of your hair.

Any vegetable oil, such as sunflower oil, olive oil of your choice
  1. Take any vegetable oil, such as sunflower oil, olive oil.
  2. Add a few teaspoons of rosemary leaves.
  3. The quantity depends on the color of the hair. If you have dark hair, you can add 2 teaspoons. If you have light hair it is important to prepare a less concentrated compound so as not to alter the natural color of the hair. So for light hair, I will suggest 1/2 of a teaspoon.
  4. Leave for 24 hours.
  5. Proceed with filtering.
  6. Proceed with the application.
  1. Apply the oil on the scalp and perform circular massages with your fingertips to promote absorption.
  2. Apply a little oil on the lengths, without exaggerating with the quantity. In fact, the hair must be damp and not completely wet. It is also important to run your fingers through the hair to distribute the compound to the lower part of the hair.
  3. Leave on for about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Proceed with the usual shampoo and rinse.

To obtain visible effects, do the mask regularly. It is advisable to use the mask once a week if you have dry hair, once every two weeks if you have oily hair. If, on the other hand, you suffer excessively from oily hair, it is important not to repeat the application more than twice a month. It is also advisable to rinse your hair with warm water after application. Using hot water you will be sure to completely remove the oil from your hair but don’t forget to make the last rinse with cold water!😉

This has real beneficial qualities for the care and health of hair. Let’s see what benefits it brings:

  • It contains two fundamental elements to combat hair loss and promote healthy growth. These elements are selenium and sulfur, compounds that we also find in different anti-dandruff or dermatitis treatments.
  • Strengthens the hair starting from the root.
  • Stimulates growth.
  • Repairs damaged hair.
  • Relieves burning and itching caused by the use of irritants or allergic reactions with the scalp.

In every clove of garlic, there are many vitamins and minerals. I understand that many of you may not like garlic because of its smell, but it is a real healthy touch for our hair. Let’s see together how to apply garlic to hair and how it is possible to make masks and conditioners based on this vegetable.

Garlic Balm

6-8 cloves of garlic
A teaspoon of honey
24 gr of chamomile

1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon of aloe vera
  1. Squeeze the cloves of garlic until a sort of juice is obtained.
  2. Add the honey.
  3. Put everything in the fridge.
  4. Prepare the chamomile and boil it for about 30 minutes, then pour it into a cup.
  5. Add an egg yolk to the mixture consisting of garlic and honey.
  6. Also, add the aloe vera to the mixture.
  1. Apply the conditioner to the scalp.
  2. Leave on for about 20 minutes.
  3. Proceed to the usual shampoo.

CAUTION!! Do not be afraid of the strong smell of garlic because it will be much lighter from other ingredients. Moreover, it will easily go away after the usual wash.

Mask based on garlic and coconut oil

A tablespoon of garlic juice (always obtained by squeezing garlic cloves)
A spoonful of coconut oil

Heat the coconut oil in a Bain-marie. It is important not to put the oil in direct contact with the heat source or it will lose its properties and not bring any benefit to the hair.

  1. Put the two ingredients in a bowl and mix.
  2. The mixture will be optimal only when the coconut oil is heated or at room temperature. Coconut oil tends to solidify with temperatures below 20 degrees centigrade, making it difficult to mix the two ingredients.
  1. Apply the mixture to the scalp, carrying out circular massages with your fingertips so as to facilitate their absorption.
  2. Leave on for about 20 minutes.
  3. Perform the usual wash with shampoo.

CAUTION!! For optimal results, it is necessary to repeat the chosen treatment twice a week, for a minimum period of three months. Preservation of finished and ready-to-apply products is not recommended as they lose their effectiveness. However, you can store that garlic juice in the fridge, in a well-covered container, but for no more than two days after pressing.

Olive oil and garlic mask

2 cloves of garlic
8 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  1. Peel the garlic cloves and put them in a saucepan.
  2. Pour 8 spoons of olive oil into the saucepan.
  3. Leave to heat over low heat until the smell of garlic begins to feel strong enough.
  4. Turn off the stove and allow the mixture to cool.
  5. Pour the mask obtained in a container that can be tightly closed. In case there are leftovers that can be kept in a place away from light and no longer than 24 hours.
  1. Apply the mask on the scalp and massage with your fingertips following a circular movement.
  2. If I can give you some advice, it is to apply the mask in the evening, so that you can leave it on all night.
  3. Proceed to apply the oil on the lengths, until all the hair is completely wet with the oil.
  4. At this point, take a towel and wrap the hair inside.
  5. The following morning, proceed with the usual shampoo.

CAUTION!! If you do not want to spend the whole night with the oil in your hair, you can safely apply it during the day. The important thing is that when you apply the oil you keep it on your hair for at least two hours. In this way, you will obtain the maximum effectiveness of the compress.
